FitMate Privacy Policy

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how FitMate accesses, uses, stores, protects, retains, and deletes fitness and related information when you use the app. It also explains your choices regarding device-based step tracking and Health Connect.

2. Information FitMate Processes

Depending on the features you enable, FitMate may process:

• Step counts and step-history summaries.
• Active calories and total calories.
• Weight entries you add manually.
• Weight records you choose to import from Health Connect.
• Weight records you explicitly choose to write or export to Health Connect.
• Fitness goals, preferences, tracking status, and locally generated progress summaries.
• Basic app diagnostics such as the installed app version when shown inside the app.

FitMate does not use Health Connect data for advertising, credit, insurance, employment decisions, unauthorized profiling, or sale to data brokers.

3. Health Connect

Health Connect access is optional. FitMate requests only the permissions needed for the feature you choose to use. You can deny or revoke access at any time through Android or Health Connect settings.

• Steps: used to display step activity and related progress.
• Active Calories and Total Calories: used to display energy-expenditure summaries where supported.
• Weight Read: requested when you choose to import your latest weight from Health Connect.
• Weight Write: requested separately when you choose to export or save a weight record to Health Connect.

FitMate does not request weight-read or weight-write access merely because you open or connect the app. Permission is requested in context when you select the corresponding feature.

Health Connect stores and manages health data independently from FitMate. Deleting FitMate’s local data or uninstalling FitMate does not automatically delete records stored in Health Connect. You can review permissions and delete Health Connect records using Health Connect settings.

4. Phone Step Tracking and Activity Recognition

If you enable phone-based step tracking, FitMate may request Android Activity Recognition permission. Before the system permission prompt, FitMate explains that the feature may continuously detect step activity, operate in the background, store step history locally, and use a persistent notification when Android requires one.

You control whether tracking is enabled. Declining the disclosure or permission keeps phone tracking disabled. Background tracking may have a limited effect on battery usage. You can disable tracking and delete locally stored fitness history from the app.

5. Notifications

FitMate may request notification permission when notifications are needed for enabled reminders or background step tracking. Notifications are used only for the features you enable. You can change notification access in Android settings.

6. How Information Is Used

FitMate processes fitness information to:

• Show daily activity, weight, calorie, and progress information.
• Maintain the fitness history and goals you choose to keep.
• Import or export supported records through Health Connect at your request.
• Operate phone-based step tracking when you enable it.
• Provide reminders, status information, and app functionality.
• Protect app reliability, diagnose errors, and comply with legal obligations.

7. Local Storage and Data Transfer

FitMate is designed primarily as an on-device application. Fitness records, weight entries, preferences, and derived summaries are stored locally on your device unless you explicitly use Health Connect.

Health Connect transfers occur through Android’s Health Connect service after you grant the relevant permission. FitMate does not operate its own remote account or health-data synchronization service under this policy.

8. Sharing and Sale of Data

JRP Apps does not sell your fitness or Health Connect data. FitMate does not share Health Connect data with advertisers, data brokers, employers, insurers, or other unrelated third parties.

Data may be processed by Android and Health Connect as necessary to provide operating-system permissions, storage, and data-exchange functions. Their handling is governed by the applicable Google and Android terms and privacy policies.

9. Android Backup

FitMate’s sensitive fitness storage, including local fitness history, weight records, Health Connect-related caches, and native step-history preferences, is excluded from Android cloud backup and device-to-device transfer where supported by Android.

Non-sensitive app preferences may be backed up by Android depending on your device settings. Health Connect data is managed separately by Health Connect and is not part of FitMate’s local backup.

10. Data Retention

Local fitness information is retained on your device until you delete it through FitMate, clear the app’s storage, or uninstall the app. Some preferences may remain until separately cleared.

Records stored in Health Connect remain subject to Health Connect’s retention and deletion controls, even after FitMate’s local copy is deleted.

11. Deleting Your Data

You can use FitMate’s local-data deletion option to remove locally stored fitness snapshots, weight entries, derived summaries, and native phone step history. FitMate safely stops active tracking while deletion is performed and avoids restoring deleted local history from its native store.

This action does not delete records held by Health Connect. To remove those records, use Health Connect’s data-management controls. You may also clear FitMate’s app storage or uninstall FitMate to remove local app data.

FitMate does not require a user account under this policy, so there is no separate server account to delete.

12. Security

FitMate limits access to fitness information to app functions you choose to use, relies on Android’s app sandbox and permission controls, and avoids requesting broader Health Connect access than necessary. No security method can guarantee absolute protection, so you should keep your device and Android security updates current.

13. Permission Control

You may control permissions through FitMate, Android settings, and Health Connect settings. Revoking a permission may disable the related feature but does not automatically delete information already stored locally or in Health Connect.

14. Children’s Privacy

FitMate is not directed to children and is not designed to knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents or guardians who believe a child has provided information through the app may contact JRP Apps.

15. International Use

FitMate primarily processes information on your device. Android or Health Connect services may process limited information according to Google’s infrastructure and policies, which may involve processing outside your country.

16. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated when FitMate’s features, permissions, data practices, or legal requirements change. The revised policy will show a new effective date and will be published at this same public URL.
